How much weight do people regain after stopping?

The most cited number is from the STEP-1 extension. Participants who lost 17.3 percent of body weight on semaglutide regained 11.6 percent within a year of switching to placebo, which works out to about 68 percent of the loss returning. Tirzepatide trials show a similar pattern, with most regain in the first six months off the medication. The average masks wide variation. People who keep daily weighing, hit a protein target around one gram per pound of bodyweight, lift weights two or three times a week, and sleep seven hours regain far less. People who stop tracking and revert to pre-medication eating regain more. The medication did not change the math. It temporarily made it easier. Holding the loss is a different, learnable skill.

Track the patterns. Hold the loss.
